Mazda CX-5 VS. Tucson VS. Sportage

You're looking for a new SUV, but you also know that the market in this segment is very competitive. Do you have to choose the most expensive SUV thinking you'll have everything you're looking for, or do you prefer to choose an entry-level model which might make you sweat in the first year? While the choice you're about to make isn't easy, a comparison between three SUV models can make it easier for you.

Baie-Comeau Mazda on the Côte-Nord is an experienced dealership which takes things seriously. It presents you its 2020 Mazda CX-5 by comparing it to the Hyundai Tucson and the Kia Sportage to better highlight its features.

MAZDA, HYUNDAI OR KIA?

Launched in 2012, the CX-5 was the first Mazda to incorporate both the Japanese Mazda design philosophy of Kodo - Soul of Motion - and Skyactiv technology. It set a new dynamic benchmark and changed our perception of the fun and appeal of a compact SUV.

In 2020, building on record sales since its introduction (nearly 2.9 million units sold in 130 countries), the Mazda CX-5 adds several enhancements and upgrades in the areas of interior and exterior design, powertrain, on-road and dynamic qualities, noise, vibration and harshness performance, and I-Activsense safety technologies. All these elements reinforce its status as a stylish, lively and intelligent vehicle that offers customers a real sense of driving pleasure.

Under the hood of the 2020 Mazda CX-5, three different engines are available: a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder that develops 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, a 2.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that this time spits out 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, and a 2.2-litre diesel engine with 168 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. Neither the Hyundai Tucson nor the Kia Sportage offers this kind of choice. The Tucson offers at best 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque, while the 2020 Sportage has an optimal record of 227 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Overall, the Mazda CX-5 is more powerful and efficient than its rivals.

Furthermore, the beauty and quality of the CX-5 dynamic body curves reflect a sleek and mature Kodo design, minimizing character line accents and also emphasizing the transitions between surfaces to create variations in the light reflected off the body. In fact, the CX-5 is available in 10 body colours, now including Polymetal Grey Metallic. The other two SUVs don't offer as many choices and variations.

The interior of the Mazda CX-5 is all about comfort, quality and design. With features galore, like connectivity for Apple CarPlayTM and Android AutoTM smartphones, just one in a long list that only Mazda can offer, the 2020 CX-5 features a larger Mazda Connect screen above the dashboard. Its 8-inch screen allows for a larger and clearer display of navigation system's text and icons as well as larger 360-degree view images. A new display function has been added to the Mazda Connect fuel consumption control that allows the driver to check the status of the cylinder deactivation system in real time.

The CX-5 cabin atmosphere is further enhanced by sublime, elegant and high-quality comfort, with high-quality LED overhead console lighting, centre stack lighting and cargo area lighting standard on all models in the lineup. The other two models compared don't offer as much and are far behind the Mazda CX-5 according to the experts. In fact, “Le Guide de l’auto 2020” gives it a spectacular 83% rating, compared to 79% for the Tucson and Sportage. It's a good result: the CX-5 outranks its rivals for a comparable price.
