Some cars become much more than a way to get around. They become cultural icons. That is certainly true of Mazda in movies. From the RX-7 in Fast & Furious to the MX-5 Miata that inspired characters in Cars, Mazda leaves its mark.
With their distinctive silhouettes, these models capture the imagination of enthusiasts far beyond the big screen. Today, Mazda is continuing that story with its own short films.
At Baie-Comeau Mazda, we understand that passion. After all, a drive along Route 138 can already feel like a scene from a movie. A view of the river, a getaway to Manic-5… Sometimes, the setting is already there. All that is missing is you behind the wheel.
You cannot talk about Mazda in movies without mentioning the legendary Mazda RX-7.
Fast & Furious fans remember the red RX-7 driven by Dominic Toretto in the first film. Then, in Tokyo Drift, Han's orange and black RX-7 turns heads.
Its VeilSide body conversion gives it a spectacular silhouette. It is hard to mistake it for anything else.
With its rotary engine and bold styling, the RX-7 represents an exciting chapter in Mazda's history. It brings together creativity, performance and the connection to the road that unites car enthusiasts.
Even today, those movie appearances continue to fuel the passion for this model. Some cars leave the screen. Others stay with you.
The Mazda MX-5 Miata also has an endearing connection to the big screen.
Inthe animated film Cars, Mia and Tia are two of Lightning McQueen's biggest fans. Their appearance draws inspiration from the first-generation Miata, complete with its famous pop-up headlights.
This time, there is no dramatic chase. The little Mazda wins people over with its shape and personality. A lovely reminder that a car does not have to be imposing to make a lasting impression.
On the road, the MX-5 also keeps things simple and engaging: enjoy the drive.
And honestly, it is easy to picture a top-down cruise along the Côte-Nord on a beautiful summer day. A breeze off the water, the St. Lawrence River in the background and a road worth exploring a little longer.
What makes these Mazda models so memorable? Their personality certainly plays a part.
Han's RX-7 makes a bold statement. The Miata-inspired characters in Cars bring a playful touch. Each tells a story before even hitting the road.
Today, Mazda models continue that pursuit of emotion through flowing lines and KODO design. Introduced in 2010, this philosophy aims to give the bodywork a sense of motion.
And here in Baie-Comeau, that feeling takes on a local flavour.
Imagine a Mazda CX-5 heading out of town for a visit to Parc Nature de Pointe-aux-Outardes. Or a Mazda3 following the river before an evening at the Centre des arts de Baie-Comeau.
You do not need a Hollywood script to enjoy the drive. Sometimes, a simple destination and good company are all it takes.
In 2026, Mazda takes its connection to cinema even further.
On April 1, 2026, Mazda Canada unveiled 5 Sides of the All-New CX-5. The campaign features the new 2026 Mazda CX-5 in five short films inspired by Hollywood genres:
action;
musical;
science fiction;
romance;
horror.
The same heroine and the same vehicle move through all five worlds. The settings change, along with the emotions and situations.
To bring the project to life, Mazda teamed up with director Paul Hunter and Oscar-winning cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema. Van Hoytema is known for his work on Oppenheimer and Interstellar, among other films.
The campaign adds a new chapter to the story of Mazda in movies while bringing it closer to everyday life. Each world explores how a vehicle can support the different sides of our lives.
Because a day can begin with the drive to work and end with a spontaneous getaway.
On the Côte-Nord, every season offers new reasons to hit the road:
a getaway to the Manic-5 dam;
an outing near the Baie-Comeau marina;
a hockey night at Centre Henry-Leonard;
a drive along the river at sunset.
Your next adventure does not need a film crew. It might simply start with a vehicle that makes you want to go somewhere.
